Did you dress the tree?

A couple of weeks ago, I said Christmas was about family, food and a cheeky drink or two, but I forgot that for me it is also about the tree!

I love the joy of choosing and dressing a tree. I also love to buy a tree with roots, but sadly it isn’t always the successful sustainability story I intend it to be.

The first rooted Christmas tree we bought we planted out on the edge of a friend’s driveway, right next to a field with horses in it. After a job ‘well done’ we were feeling rather smug. Then, as we got ready to go home we saw our tree dancing down the field in one of the horse’s mouths.

We felt smug again this year, as last year’s tree was potted out waiting patiently on our patio. However, in an effort to make it happy (because we managed to kill the previous one!), we had potted it in a big pot with lots of soil and compost. It was obviously very happy, as it had grown quite a bit and was so heavy, we couldn’t carry it back in the house.

This year we relented and ended up buying one without roots. It’s a beauty though and is full of my favourite baubles. Each one shares a little memory, which stirs my heart as I unwrap them and hang them in the tree.

Oh, and this week’s Annie and Eva’s story may or may not be based on a real story.
